Public Safety Advisory: Controlled Water Release at Churchill Falls Jacopie Spillway

October 16th, 2018

Nalcor Energy Churchill Falls advises the public of a controlled water release to occur from the upper Churchill reservoir at the Jacopie Spillway commencing on October 18, 2018 and lasting approximately two weeks. This controlled release is to ensure we continue to maintain safe water levels in the reservoir.

During the controlled release, water levels along the upper and lower Churchill River are expected to be consistent with levels typically seen each year in November.

The public is advised to avoid the following areas:
• Jacopie Spillway including downstream of the Spillway
• Whitefish Control Structure
• Churchill River walking trail
• East and west forebay water storage areas located north of the community of Churchill Falls
The public is advised to avoid the areas around our generation facilities as water levels in these areas are unpredictable and will fluctuate.
Safety is always our number one priority. We will notify the public once the controlled release of water has ended.
