Public Safety Advisory: Controlled Water Release at Churchill Falls Jacopie Spillway (UPDATE)

November 1st, 2018

Nalcor Energy Churchill Falls advises the public of the continued controlled release of water from the upper Churchill reservoir at the Jacopie Spillway. This is to ensure safe water levels are maintained in the reservoir. The controlled release is expected to continue for approximately the first 7 to 10 days of November. Water levels along the upper and lower Churchill River continue to be consistent with levels typically seen this time of year.

Please continue avoiding the following areas:

· Upstream and downstream of the Jacopie Spillway;
· Whitefish Control Structure;
· East and west forebay water storage areas located north of Churchill Falls and;
· the Churchill River walking trail which typically has icy walking conditions this time of year.

Safety is Nalcor’s number one priority and advises the public to avoid the areas around its generation facilities as water levels in these areas are unpredictable and will fluctuate.

Nalcor will notify the public once the controlled release of water has ended.
