Lease Agreement Brings Transocean Barents to Bull Arm Fabrication Site

October 25th, 2019

St. John’s, NL – Nalcor Energy – Bull Arm Fabrication has signed an agreement with DF Barnes that will have the Site play host to the ultra-deepwater semi-submersible drill rig, Transocean Barents, as it readies for further exploration work offshore Newfoundland in 2020.

“This is the second drill rig to be serviced at the Site this year and follows the completion of a similar work scope by DF Barnes for Seadrill’s West Aquarius,” said Jim Keating, Executive Vice- President, Offshore Development, Nalcor Energy. “In the last number of years we have seen close to $4 billion in exploration work commitments made, as a result, numerous oil and gas companies have identified drilling plans that consider multiple wells. The Site is a strategic asset that supports the growth in our industry and we look forward to continuing to support this momentum into the future.”

The agreement is for a portion of the Site and will see work begin next week and continue into Spring 2020. The work scope includes warm stacking; thruster change out; cleaning of the holding tank; and various other multi-disciplined scopes.

Bull Arm Fabrication is Atlantic Canada’s largest industrial fabrication site and spans over 6,300 acres with fully integrated and comprehensive infrastructure to support simultaneous fabrication and assembly in its three key project areas: Fabrication Yard; Marine Facility; and Deepwater Site. Work on the Transocean Barents will take place within areas of the Fabrication Yard and Marine Facility.
