Nalcor Energy is a Crown Corporation that acts on behalf of the people of Newfoundland and Labrador. The company understands the importance of accountability and transparency to the citizens of this province and is committed to being open, transparent and accountable across its operations.

Transparency means having information and data available to the people of this province, while accountability is taking responsibility and recognizing the decisions and actions taken by the company.

Transparency and accountability is a part of each and every line of business throughout Nalcor Energy. Through all of Nalcor’s reporting processes and procedures, the company is ensuring accountability and providing due diligence and oversight. As part of the regular business operations, Nalcor reports to the public, government and stakeholders through various means such as formal reports, public Annual General Meeting, responses to public requests for information as well as public information sessions, open houses and presentations offered throughout the province.

Nalcor Energy continues its commitment to public accountability through our government and regulatory interfaces which include:

  • A presentation of the capital and operating budgets to the Premier and Ministers of Natural Resources and Finance as well as senior government officials for review and approval
  • The Public Utilities Board (PUB) has oversight of Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro’s capital programs, General Rate Applications and other rate related filings
  • Hydro also has regular quarterly and annual reporting to the PUB as well as other numerous report requests
  • The government can also audit Nalcor and its processes and the Auditor General has open access to the company
