Thursday, April 25, 2013 Federal Court of Canada dismisses second application for judicial review of Lower Churchill Hydroelectric Generation Project The Federal Court of Canada released its judgment in favour of Nalcor Energy in the case of Conseil des Innus de Ekuanitshit vs. Nalcor Energy, Attorney General of Canada et al, a case in which the Innu of Ekuanitshit challenged the lawfulness of, and sought judicial review of, the decision by the Government of Canada to release the Lower Churchill Hydroelectric Generation Project from environmental assessment. Friday, December 21, 2012 Federal Court of Canada dismisses application for judicial review for Lower Churchill Hydroelectric Generation Project December 21, 2012, St. John's, NL – Yesterday, the Federal Court of Canada released its judgment in favour of Nalcor Energy in the case of Grand River Keeper Labrador, Sierra Club of Canada and NunatuKavut Community Council v. Nalcor Energy, Attorney General of Canada et al, a case in which the applicants challenged the lawfulness of, and sought the judicial review of the Report of the Joint Review Panel, Lower Churchill Hydroelectric Generation Project, Nalcor Energy, Newfoundland and Labrador. Thursday, November 01, 2012 Further Site Preparation Work Starting at Muskrat Falls November 1, 2012, St. John's, NL – Nalcor Energy is progressing with further site preparation work at Muskrat Falls in the coming weeks. Initial work was announced in April 2012 which included road construction and site access. This work has progressed over the summer and fall and is still underway. This further work will take work through November and December at which time Nalcor will re-visit the next steps in the context of the timing of a sanction decision. Tuesday, October 30, 2012 MHI Analysis and DG3 Cost Estimates Support Development of Muskrat Falls The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador today released the Decision Gate 3 (DG3) cost estimate for the Muskrat Falls hydroelectric project, and a report by Manitoba Hydro International Limited (MHI). The MHI report confirmed the engineering, costs, and project planning completed by Nalcor Energy, and affirms Muskrat Falls as the least-cost option for electricity generation in the province. Monday, October 22, 2012 Media Statement: Water Management Agreement in place for Churchill River October 22, 2012, St. John's, NL – Nalcor Energy issues the following statement to clarify inaccurate statements regarding the Water Management Agreement. Legislation in Newfoundland and Labrador requires a water management agreement to be in place between operators on a river system. The legislation requires Nalcor Energy and Churchill Falls (Labrador) Corporation (Churchill Falls), the two power producers on the Churchill River, to use available storage, primarily in the Churchill Falls reservoir, and their respective generating facilities to optimize the production of power while maintaining the contractual obligations of Churchill Falls to its customers, including Hydro-Quebec. The terms of the agreement, which have already been established, require Muskrat Falls and Churchill Falls to operate as an integrated system. Click here to read the full media statement. |
